This is the new normal, at least for one month. Here is my hope for you: use this break in your routine wisely. Are you such a sports “fan” that you’ll watch anything ESPN or Fox Sports air in the next few weeks, take a moment and ask yourself, Is this an addiction (yes)?

Big world out there. Go see it.

Sports are great. But maybe you can use the time to exercise more. Learn a new skill. Read a few books. Visit a national park. Something new.

If you’re ever going to take violin lessons…

That is my sincere hope for you. Every hardship is an opportunity in disguise. Hope everyone stays healthy. And if you are, then use this time away from your sports addiction to your benefit. Don’t be that guy who’s so so addicted to cigarettes that he picks up used butts from the ground just to get that residual puff.

  1. “Go see it”. ABSOLUTELY NOT! STAY HOME! At least until the ‘curve has flattened’ or whatever the equivalent of “the coast is clear or at least clearer”.

Since many of the things on your list are not really “cancelled” but “suspended”, I have a question – would it have been impossible to just delay March Madness to, er, “May Madness” instead of total cancellation? Heck, collegiate baseball continues long after Spring semesters are over so I don’t think the semester end should be a deterrent. Would it just be too difficult to reschedule all the venues, hotels, flights? As long as the internet & the phone systems keep working, I would think this would definitely be possible to achieve by the folks who DO THIS FOR A LIVING. What are your thoughts?

Did you survive yesterday’s “Black Thursday”? Remember when I accidentally referred to 1987’s Black Monday as such? Maybe I’m a precog! 😉 Anyhoo, I went ahead & finished investing the remainder of my 2019 ROTH money yesterday. Had to get it in there before the end of next week & thought yesterday’s TOTAL MELTDOWN seemed like a “good time” 😉 Couldn’t bring myself to check on my stock account, though. The number in red staring at me when I checked in the morning was bad enough. I did check all my stock’s “lows” yesterday thru CNBC as I do most days & @#&*$@&%. For those of you not alive or spending their days at a leafy Indiana college campus back in October 1987, this was WORSE than that day! The past 3 weeks have actually been worse than 2008 because of the speed & fear, not just financially, but over one’s health & safety too. The one bright spot is that when the comeback comes, it will be BIG & fast. However, the country may go into recession 1st, which means at least some companies (& their stocks) won’t make it through.

Finally, besides all the various sports’ arena/stadium employees who won’t be working for at least the rest of the month, what about the sports media, on TV, radio & print/online? With no games/events to comment/write about, these thousands of folks will also be “out of work”. I’m thinking the pro sports orgs should be kicking some of their money over to them too. On the bright side, maybe all these smart & witty folks can start writing/commentating 24/7 on the TOTAL DISASTER that is our executive branch & can help ensure it won’t be repeated this November or any November. In other words – DON’T STICK TO SPORTS!

As for Canyonlands National Park, I think it’ll be pretty deserted. Far more deserted than most places. And I’m not going to spend the month inside my (mom’s) house.
